The Writing Business.

As I sell The Mouse Wife the conveyor belt continues to move and today I have the proof of a cover for a book to be published later this year.

This is the factual account of my life and adventures in Sierra Leone, West Africa from 1960 to 1965 where I managed a small bank branch at age 21. It might have been small but in the safe was up to £1.5 million and the only person with the combination and keys was me.

My customers were mainly the market women who saved their takings, handing me sweat and palm oil soaked notes susceptible to termites eating them in return for cash, coin, something safe. They would come in and ask to see the money and I would shake a bag of £100 of coin. Apart from them there were tricky Lebanese traders, much bigger money involved and of course, Government Departments.
West Africa has a reputation for being unhealthy and for me it was having a series of illnesses but having to stay at my post. It had it's funny moments too and I had African friends, nice men and some rogues to work with.
